On July 29, 2019, WCPS was given notice by Pearson of a data breach. The platform that was affected, AIMSweb 1.0, has not been utilized by WCPS since the 2016-2017 school year. After investigation, the WCPS technology department has learned that no sensitive data was compromised. The information that was obtained includes only names and state testing identifier numbers of WCPS students currently in grades 3-12. The data within this program does not include email addresses, social security numbers, date of birth or assessment information. While there is no evidence that this information has been misused, WCPS would like to bring this information to parents’ attention.
Pearson has taken precautions to secure the AIMSweb 1.0 platform and has determined that no other Pearson systems were affected by this incident. Furthermore, Pearson is currently undergoing a review to determine additional steps to further enhance the security of user information. In addition, Pearson is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to any affected individuals. If you have additional questions or wish to explore the option of complimentary credit monitoring for your student, you can contact Pearson at 866-883-3309.
